The Department of Geography, University of Oregon, seeks to create a pool of applicants for possible part-time, temporary, teaching assignments and research assignments. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis and screening of applications will take place as positions become available and continue until positions are filled. The pool is for limited duration appointments renewable up to three years depending on need, funding and performance. Positions filled through this pool may require a background check.
At this time there is an immediate need for one position, Human Geographer instructor, Ph.D. required. We seek applicants with a teaching background in human Geography for both undergraduate and graduate level courses.

Essential Functions:
Successful candidates will have professional experience, demonstrated ability or potential for quality teaching/research and a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Successful candidates for an Officer of Instruction position will have teaching background and classroom experience in Human Geography, Physical Geography, or GIScience. Teaching positions will work under the supervision of the Geography Department Head.
Successful candidates for Research Assistant/Associate position will have research background in Geography or a Geography related field. Research Assistants will work under the supervision of a Research Associate. Research Associates will be expected to work independently on projects.
3. Minimum
Qualifications:
Research Assistant, B.A./B.S. required by start of position, M.A./M.S. preferred.
Research Associate, Ph.D. is required by start of position.
Officer of Instruction, M.A./M.S. required by start of position, Ph.D. preferred.

Research and graduate education in the Department of Geography focuses on the following subfields: (a) Geographic information science: cartography, GIS, data analysis and visualization, spatial analysis and modeling; (b) Human geography: political-ethnic (especially international relations, ethno-territorial conflict, international development and political economy), cultural (especially historical geography, ethnicity and religion, urban geography, and gender studies), human-environment relations (especially cultural/political ecology and landscape), and behavioral geography; (c) Physical geography: Quaternary studies, biogeography (especially vegetation history and palynology), climatology and climatic change, geomorphology (especially fluvial and arid lands); (d) Environmental studies: forest and ecosystem issues, river and watershed issues, biodiversity and global environmental change, policy and law, environmental applications of GIS; and (e) Geographic education.
